This game is built on a great premise: Take two cards with different topics and make a pun from them. For people who love puns and are creative, a pun contest seems a fun way to spend a couple of hours with friends. A set of 200 cards is provided in a box, along with pads for writing puns. The size of the game is perfect to pack along on a trip. So much potential. But the rules…..90 seconds to create a pun and write it down. For people who live and breathe puns, or those who excel at improv, maybe. But for most of us, 90 seconds is a very short time to get the creative juices flowing. Such pressure at odds with the goal of the game, which is to come up with puns, the badder the better, and have fun. Drawing a blank is so easy with topics that are revealed and not always pun-convenient. We tossed the rules to the curb and teamed up to come up with puns as time allowed (within reason, of course). Much more enjoyable. Fun. Many laughs. My recommendation is to use the cards as a starter for an evening of pun creation without the “game” structure. The puns on the backs of the cards are a perfect way to get the game started. Even if you never play the game, the ready-made puns are worth the price of admission. Overall, this game is for certain people, but not for all. There are too many opportunities for some players to give up and go watch tv. Teaming players up helps getting good puns created. Allowing more time than the rules call for helps, too. Relax and use the puns and cards to make for a pressure-free fun time with your friends.I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
